How to reach us
By train
To reach San Polo Palace 1976 from Venice Santa Lucia railway station, you have 2 options: by water bus (vaporetto) or on foot.
By Water Bus (Recommended with luggage)
- Public water transport is operated by ACTV. Alternatively, there are many private water taxis available. This is the most convenient option if you have heavy suitcases.
- Boarding point: Upon exiting Santa Lucia station, you will find the vaporetto piers (named "Ferrovia") directly in front of you on the Grand Canal.
- Which line to take: Board Line 1 or Line 2 (heading towards Rialto / San Marco).
- Where to get off: Get off at the San Tomà stop. The boat ride takes approximately 12–15 minutes.
- Final walk: Once you disembark at San Tomà, walk straight ahead along the street (Calle del Traghetto) to reach Campo San Tomà. From there, simply follow the signs for the Basilica dei Frari or Campo San Polo. The property is less than a 5-minute walk from the stop.
On Foot (Approximately 15–20 minutes)
If you are traveling light and prefer to walk, the property is located just over a kilometer from the station.
- Crossing the Grand Canal: As soon as you leave the station, turn left and cross the large stone bridge, the Ponte degli Scalzi.
- The route: After crossing the bridge, turn right onto Fondamenta San Simeon Piccolo. Then, make your way into the narrow streets (calli), following the yellow signs on the walls marked "Rialto."
- Landmarks: The most direct and straightforward route takes you across Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio.
- Arrival: From Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio, follow the signs for the Basilica dei Frari or the Scuola Grande di San Rocco. As the property is located just 400 meters from the Frari, once you reach the rear or the *campo* of the Basilica, you will be in the right district and just a few steps from the entrance.
By plane
For those landing at Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), there are several alternatives depending on your budget and desired convenience.
Bus to Piazzale Roma + Water Bus (or on foot)
- From the airport to Piazzale Roma: leaving the arrivals terminal, you will find the bus lanes. You can choose between the direct ATVO bus (Venezia Express) or the ACTV city bus (Line 5 - Aerobus). Both will take you to Piazzale Roma (the terminal where roads for vehicles end) in about 20-25 minutes.
- From Piazzale Roma to the property: by Water Bus (Recommended with luggage). Go to the docks and take Line 1 or Line 2 (direction Rialto/San Marco). Get off at the San Tomà stop (about 10 minutes journey). From Campo San Tomà, follow the signs for the Frari Basilica; the property is less than a 5-minute walk away. On foot: If you are traveling light, you can walk from Piazzale Roma in about 10-15 minutes. Simply cross the Papadopoli Gardens and follow the yellow signs on the walls for the Frari Basilica or San Polo.
Alilaguna Water Shuttle (By Water)
This solution does not require changing vehicles and is scenic, but takes more time.
- Boarding: from the airport, follow the "Trasporti via d'acqua / Water Transport" signs through a covered walkway (about 7-10 minutes walk) until you reach the Darsena (marina).
- Which line to take: buy a ticket for the Alilaguna company and board the Orange Line (Linea Arancio).
- Where to get off: the most convenient stop for the San Polo district is San Stae. The navigation time is about 45-50 minutes.
- Final walking section: from the San Stae stop, you will have to walk for about 10 minutes. Head inland following the signs for Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio and subsequently for the Frari Basilica.
Private Water Taxi
- Details: you can hire a water taxi directly from the airport marina or book it in advance.
- The route: the journey will take about 30 minutes and the motorboat will take you directly to Venice, dropping you off at the nearest navigable canal (rio) to the entrance of San Polo Palace 1976. This will reduce the walking distance with suitcases almost to zero.
By car
Since the historic center of Venice is entirely pedestrian and closed to motor vehicles, it will be necessary to park your car before reaching the property.
- Parking at Piazzale Roma (The closest solution). Piazzale Roma is the last point in the city accessible to cars. The main garages are located here (such as the Autorimessa Comunale and Garage San Marco). Since spaces are limited, advance online booking is highly recommended.
- From Piazzale Roma to the property by Water Bus (Recommended with luggage): Head to the ACTV docks and take Line 1 or Line 2 (direction Rialto/San Marco). Get off at the San Tomà stop (about 10 minutes navigation). From Campo San Tomà, follow signs for the Frari Basilica; the property is less than 5 minutes away on foot.
- From Piazzale Roma to the property on foot (Approx. 10-15 minutes): If you have light luggage, head east crossing the Papadopoli Gardens. Then enter the alleys following the yellow signs on the walls for the Frari Basilica or San Polo.
- Parking at Isola del Tronchetto (Spacious alternative). Located on the right immediately after crossing the Ponte della Libertà, the Venezia Tronchetto Parking is a very large facility and is generally slightly cheaper than Piazzale Roma.
- From Tronchetto to the property by Water Bus: From the Tronchetto docks, you can directly take the Line 2 water bus. Get off at the San Tomà stop (the journey takes about 15-20 minutes) and walk for 5 minutes towards the Frari area.
- From Tronchetto to Piazzale Roma via "People Mover": alternatively, take the elevated shuttle train (People Mover) that connects Tronchetto to Piazzale Roma in just 3 minutes. Once at Piazzale Roma, continue on foot or by water bus (Line 1 or 2) as described above.
